Kat and I were recently invited to the launch of the Telstra Business Women’s Awards for 2017, which was held at the Convention Centre. Amongst the women attending were previous winners, alumni and judges (there were a few male judges there also). The calibre of women in the room was extraordinary, it was hard not to feel inspired.
The Telstra Business Women’s Awards play a vital role in raising the profile of women in business and is one of the most esteemed women’s awards and its now in its 23rd year.
One of the reasons we started Behind the Brands was to not only support female entrepreneurs in their journey but to shine the light on the many women in WA that are kicking goals, smashing through the glass ceiling and achieving some amazing things in business. Women that fly under the radar and whose names you wouldn’t ordinarily recognise. One way you can do this is by nominating a trailblazer for the 2017 Telstra Business Women Awards. The Awards empower women to take pride in their achievements and encourage them to set bold new goals for the future. #beboldforchange
When speaking with previous winners and alumni nearly all of them mentioned that they didn’t nominate themselves as they didn’t believe they had achieved anything that made them worthy of the awards. And it got me thinking that I too would never nominate myself for an award. As children we are told not to brag and show off, is this part of the reason why I and many other women wouldn’t nominate themselves? Are we afraid people will think we are conceited if they found out we self-nominated? What this really means is that there are some fantastic women who are missing out on being recognised for their achievements, which is such a shame.
So please, let yourself shine and share your story of how brilliant a business women you are. Nominate today. Or nominate an inspiring women you know. Nominations are open now and close on 15th June 2017.
