“I would always describe myself as a business woman who gets her butt to the gym when she can.”
What ignited the spark in you to start your business?
I’ve always been an entrepreneur. I think it was always in my blood. I’ve never worked a 9-5 job and have always started my own businesses, from fashion labels, to social media marketing and now fitness.
Was there a significant turning point when you decided to become an entrepreneur?
When I was 17 I did volunteer work in Malaysia in a small village in Sarawak. It made me realise how lucky I was to have the opportunities and advantages that come with being born in Australia, and since then, I’ve lived my life (mostly!) without fear of failure and always with the belief that if I want something bad enough, I can make it happen.
What do you believe was the best decision you made in business?
The best decision I made was to stop thinking and planning and just start doing. We spend so long being scared of the results, that we try and perfect and perfect before we release anything. Just do it.
What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur?
- Be fearless. Fearless of criticism. Fearless of failure.
- Be a doer, not a thinker. The ability to follow through on your thoughts, make dreams reality.
- Self belief. Belief in your product, your business and your own abilities.
Who do you look up to in business? Who inspires you?
In my industry, no one dominates the sector as much as Kayla Itsines and her partner Tobi Pearce. What they have managed to create together is insane. I think everyone in my industry can use them as a benchmark to what they should be looking to achieve.
What was the best advice that you have been given?
I can’t remember who said it, but it was that you should always work on your business, not in your business. This thought process has helped me rapidly grow my business so that I can continuously think of new and improved ways to help my clients.
What do you think your key to success has been?
The fact that I am genuine and true to myself on social media. I think people feel like they can relate to me and trust me which is always nice. Vulnerability is in.
How have you personally measured your success?
I measure it by the number of people who actively engage in and use my products. To know that I am helping women feel more confident within themselves and at the gym, makes me feel amazing!
How do you make the most of your day?
I’m still having trouble with this as my business is growing and changing rapidly. I like to plan my week on Sunday and write myself up all the tasks that need to be done for the week and then delegate them in order of priority.
Other than your business, what other hats do you wear?
I’m a daughter, sister, girlfriend, friend and mumma to a fur baby.
What is your favourite thing to do in your downtime?
I love going to the beach with my boyfriend and taking our dog Mimi with us. Seeing her run around in the sand with so much joy always makes me feel more relaxed.
What is your favourite app?
Haha can I say Instagram? In terms of helping me with my business, I’d say VSCO cam as it has the best filters!
Outsource the skill or learn the skill?
Learn the skill first, then outsource it so you know exactly how you want it done. Unless it’s really difficult like web development, then outsource that shit.
Describe/outline your typical day?
- Protein Smoothie
- Filming @ the gym
- Meetings with business advisor/accountant/recipe creator/
- Take photos for Gymshark and Instagram
- Walk my dog with my boyfriend
- Write content + plan Youtube video
- Watch Love Island
- Read and go to bed (currently reading The 10x Rule by Grant Cardone and loving it)
What motivates you?
I motivate myself! I want to be the best version of myself possible and push myself to achieve the things that I fear the most.
What is your favorite aspect of being an entrepreneur?
I love that I am in control of my life, I feel that I get to choose every single day, and if I’m unhappy about something I have myself to blame. To know that you’re in control of your happiness is an amazing feeling.
Excluding yours, what company or business do you admire the most?
I admire what Steve Jobs did with Apple and Pixel. I know it’s a little cliche but you can’t really beat Apple can you?
Where you see yourself and your business in 10 years?
I see myself working with an amazing team, in a beautiful office, changing millions of women’s lives around the world and injecting much needed diversity and “realness” into the fitness industry.
